The Upper Austria Grand Prix was the first competition Tato Grigalashvili (GEO) had fought in since he lost in the final of the 2025 Budapest World Championships, to Timur Arbuzov (RUS). Just prior to that, he lost in the final of the 2025 Podgorica European Championships, also to Arbuzov. And prior to that, he lost in the final of the 2025 Upper Austria Grand Prix to fellow Georgian Giorgi Jabniashvili. This year's Upper Austria GP showed that Grigalashvili is still a major force to contend with.
