Yasmin Alamin wins bronze in African Open

The USA had four players in the -70kg category and the one who broke through was Yasmin Alamin, who won a bronze medal.

She threw her first opponent, Hazel Taylor (GBR), with osoto-gari for waza-ari and then proceeded to apply an effective sankaku that had the Briton tapping for submission.

Alamin threw Wided Rajid (TUN) with exactly the same technique – hugging kosoto – twice for waza-ari-awasete-ippon.

She tried that same hugging kosoto against her quarterfinal opponent Diassonema Mucungui (ANG) but was countered for yuko. This cost her the match.

Alamin won her repechage match by throwing Ksenia Medvedeva (RUS) with harai-goshi for yuko.

The bronze medal match against Moira De Villiers (NZL) was a hard fought one which went into Golden Score. After about a minute, Alamin managed to counter her for yuko to win the match
