Like many Japanese female players, Omori is really good at newaza, especially osaekomi. And it was with newaza that she won her first match, pinning Nino Laladze (GEO) with tate-shiho-gatame for ippon.
She had a hard time against Mina Libeer (BEL) and scraped through a win with yuko from kosoto-gari.
For her quarterfinal match, Omori faced her teammate, Momo Tamaoki (JPN), who scored first with tani-otoshi for yuko. Omori scored back with the exact same technique but her score was waza-ari.
Omori’s favorite technique is harai-goshi and she launched Sarah Leonie Cysique (FRA) in the opening seconds with a massive harai-makikomi that had the French player stunned and laying down on the ground for a while.
Her final with Liparteliani was an exciting match. There was heavy grip fighting between the two players but neither one was able to score, and the match went into Golden Score. Liparteliani had been careful to avoid newaza with Omori but about one minute and 40 seconds into the Golden Score, she found herself to be in a turtle position after a failed attack. Omori immediately launched into an osaekomi turnover and pinned her for five seconds. That’s all that was needed as they were in Golden Score.
